Marvel’s Black Panther film is hands down one of my favorite movies of all-time. I know some people will say it’s too early for me to make such a claim, and others may argue I just bought into the hype. However, I guarantee that it’s not too early and if I bought into the hype, it’s because the movie deserves every bit of it. The Ryan Coogler project is probably one of the only films I’m willing to pay to see in the theater multiple times (I’ve seen it twice already, and really wanting to go see a third soon). I’ve talked about the movie non-stop since I’ve seen it, and have even pledged my allegiance to Wakanda forever. With that said, there are five takeaways I got from my new favorite film.
It’s been probably about a month since I’ve seen Moonlight, but for some odd reason I waited until now to give my review. I can’t tell you why I waited, but I did. Regardless, here we are. I’ll issue my one and only warning now. This has spoilers!
In one of those moments when I let my mind wander, I started thinking about this year’s election. And I wasn’t thinking about who offers the better healthcare plan, or whose economic policy will better benefit America’s future. I was thinking about what this election year reminds me of in terms of TV and film. And here is the list I came up with.
With the reboot of the classic Roots hitting airways this week, I’ve seen a number of posts on social media platforms and blogs bashing the miniseries and blacks recent depiction in film. While I’ve admittedly not been the biggest supporter of this remake (I just feel certain projects should not be rebooted), I’m not against the miniseries for the same reasons most naysayers are. But I most certainly understand the naysayers’ frustrations.
So while I’ve never written about a web series before, I felt compelled to write about the new smash hit About Him. Without hesitation or pause, I can genuinely say that this Signal 23 TV show represents some of the best original programming online. Having only watched two episodes so far, I’ve been thoroughly impressed and entertained.
