In 2014 while trying to figure some things out about life, I discovered I had a passion for writing. To be perfectly honest, I never really considered becoming an author. But one day, I felt led to write a story. So I grabbed a pen and a notebook, and just let my words pour out. Inspired by the genius of James Baldwin, the authenticity of Maya Angelou, and the freshness of Rashid Darden, I wanted to compose a body of work that would voice stories that needed to be told, and would leave readers feeling encouraged to embrace their truth and live out loud.
Out of my passion and inspiration came along my first novel Majoring in Me: Acceptance (2016). The fictional story of a young black man in college struggling to accept his own sexuality in light of his Christian upbringing and homophobic fraternal surroundings. In the midst of writing this book, I decided to birth the Majoring in Me series. Proclamation, the sequel to Acceptance, dives into what the main character Tristan calls his “Coming out Tour.” Coming out to family and friends is one of the most nerve-racking experiences a black man can possibly go through, and this sequel captures this very emotional journey. So be sure to be on the lookout for Majoring in Me: Proclamation, hitting the market soon.
Away from fiction material, I’ve recently been developing some self-help and DIY material. While I’d like to elaborate more on all I have in the pipeline, and will at some point in the near future, just know the eBooks will be more reflective of the advice content on According to T. The first eBook, which I can tell you about, classifies as DIY material.
To my surprise, I’ve often been asked about what it takes to self-publish a book. It’s surprising because when I set out to write my first novel, I never dreamed people would one day be asking me questions about how to self-publish a book of their very own. It’s flattering. After answering questions about the topic over and over again, I decided to write 10 Things You Should Know Before You Self-Publish. It’s a short guide that goes over everything I wish someone would have told me when I first sought to publish my own work. It’s a quick read that get’s right to the point. Be sure to check it out.
Anyway, as I continue to pursue my lofty of goals of becoming a notable author, I humbly ask each of you to support me in my efforts by checking out some of my writings. If you like what you read, be sure to spread the word to your friends and family. And lastly, subscribe! As always nothing but love,
