As 2015 winds down and 2016 vastly approaches, there are a few things I wanted to share with you all. I want to thank you all for visiting According to T. When I started this blog in May of this year, I wasn’t sure what to expect. I had dreams it would become this great site, but I secretly was nervous it was going to fail. Call it the pessimist in me. Well thanks to you the readers, According to T is steadily growing and I’m grateful. It feels good to know that people not only visit my blog, but enjoy the content and are appreciative my little nuggets of wisdom. Going forward, I hope to provide you all with even better material next year. Because most of what I post is contingent upon questions you all ask, make sure you get those into me. Remember, no subject is off limits and everything is kept Anonymous. So here’s to 2016! Before I say bye to 2015, let me leave you all with my year end round-up.
Happy Friday Folks. We’ve thankfully made it to another weekend. As you know, I typically reserve this day of the week to shoot off an opinion about something current. Sometimes it’s a rant, other times it’s a rave review. For this particular Firing Off Friday, I want to talk about today’s release of some great music. Both Janet Jackson and Tamar Braxton have opted to unveil new albums this week, and I’m excited (for the most part anyway).
I, along with the rest of the world, was very thrilled when Janet Jackson announced that people could expect new music from her in 2015. With a legacy in the music business spanning across a few decades, you’d be hard pressed to find someone that wasn’t eager for her return. Having said that, I’m sad to say that I don’t love her latest project. Don’t get me wrong, there are definitely some great tracks on the album; however, I was anticipating more as a whole. She hasn’t dropped an album in about 7 years, so I guess I was expecting a Velvet Rope situation. Or to put it another way, I thought this album would see her have her Emancipation of Mimi moment. That like Mariah in 2005, Janet would come back and monopolize the music industry for a little while. Unfortunately, Unbreakable is just not that type of project to me. And before her stans come and attack me, please know I really do like Janet. A lot actually. I just had higher hopes, that’s all.
Calling All Lovers
Of the two albums, people may be shocked to read that I actually prefer the younger Braxton’s body of work this go around over the legend that is Janet. To be honest I’m not even a super Tamar fan. But as a fan of good music I have to say, she did her thing. The lyrics, the vocals, and the overall vibe of Calling All Lovers deserves people’s attention. For those that still view Tamar as Toni’s baby sister, I promise you this album will make you take notice of the true talent Tamar is under all of the facial expressions and at times over the top comments. When I first her the song “Circles” specifically, I wanted to throw my shoe at her. LOL! The track was that good. For her to be able to steal attention from THE Janet Jackson, you know the music has to be amazing. Don’t just take my word for it, go listen to the album today.
