By now, most of you have been caught up to speed on the human rights violations occurring in Libya. If you were anything like me, you found yourself confused by the reporting. First, you couldn’t quite comprehend how slavery is an ongoing issue in 2017. Second, you are in sheer disbelief that such a crime against humanity could have gone unreported for such a long time. Especially, when you have news alerts going off on your phone multiple times a day and most of those alerts are related to Trump’s Twitter fingers. (Seriously, it’s gotten to the point where I get an alert from CNN and I’m like “what did he say now?”)
Again, if you were like me, once you moved past your state of confusion and frustration, you wanted answers on how to stop the problem. You wanted to know what organizations to call and donate money to. You wanted to bombard Capitol Hill to force congressmen and women to stop talking about tax codes and loopholes, and start talking about American intervention. Heck, some of you with a deep pocket and time to spare may have wanted to hop on the next flight abroad and be your own Batman-esque vigilante. The bottom line, some of you like me wanted to do more than hashtag activism.
Hey ya’ll! It’s me again, Euphonious K.Z.G. (not Tavion Scott) and this is blog #2!!! I hope this post finds you all well and with a bit more light and love in your lives than my first post. I just want to take this post to talk about my gratitude on Gratefulness Day.
Hello Readers! Before you read too far into this, let me start by saying this in fact is not Tavion Scott. Allow me to introduce myself. I am Euphonious K.Z.G. That’s pronounced U-Phony-Us. Tavion decided to loan me his platform on this fine Monday. Heck, this Monday and the Mondays to come. See, he asked me to be his first guest writer for his blog which blew my mind. So I am humbled and honored to have this opportunity and space to share my thoughts, creativity, emotions, weirdness, and light with you all. I hope you enjoy this journey with me. Now I’m a novice and an artist…so I’m sensitive about my shit lol.
While I might find this man to be morally reprehensible, culturally ignorant, politically unaware, and by all appearances completely narcissistic, today’s post is not actually a bash Trump session. In fact, I can’t believe I’m about to write this, but I think Trump should be thanked. I know I sound foolish, or perhaps heavily medicated. However, I do in fact credit Trump with a few “good things.” His political career has served as an eye-opener on three fronts.
Not sure when it happened, or how it happened, but at some point in the history of this country, two words in the English language became synonyms. People began using the two terms interchangeably as if they meant the same thing. But, there is a problem with that. The two expressions don’t in fact mean the same thing. To be clear, I’m referring to the words “hoe” and “freak.”
Lawrence vs. Daniel
If you haven’t had the opportunity to check out the amazing show Insecure, let me warn you that this post will contain spoilers. So before you read any further, do yourself a favor and watch the series. Heck, stop missing out on a movement. Issa Rae created something that is “hella” creative, “hella” funny, and “hella” reflective of the awkwardness that exists in all of us. Particularly, when it comes to matters of the heart. But anyway, onto the premise of this post.
I putting out a challenge for personal elevation. Stop concerning yourself with every person that throws you shade. Let go of your pressing desire to return petty for petty. And please do yourself a favor, and tap into your ability to turn the other cheek. I’ve come to learn, that sometimes in your effort to seek revenge against someone you think that has wronged you, you are mostly likely accomplishing two things. One, you’ll be wasting time. The time you spend plotting and scheming on someone, is time you won’t ever get back. It could be better spent on your dreams and hustles, but instead you will be giving it someone that won’t contribute to your bank account or happiness. Second, when you seek out revenge, you are allowing whoever wronged you to further consume your energy. You give them expressed permission and consent to continue to antagonize you. Not to mention, you prop them up to a position in your life they don’t need to have.
In the today’s world, a value has been placed on everything. Off the top of your head, I bet many of you could accurately estimate the price of a new iPhone, a pair of Jordan shoes, or a brand new sedan of your choosing. For some time now, the world has elected to place a price on natural elements of the earth like water, gas, and even oxygen in some luxurious instances. And of course money has value. Why do you think so much attention is placed on the U.S. dollar and the Euro? In spite of all the things society highly values, we somehow devalue two of the most important things a person can own. Belief and Faith.
