I’m Thicker and Hate it!

Dear T,

I’m just going to put it on the table.  I’m extremely uncomfortable being naked around my partner.  We’ve been together for about 8 months, and I’ve put on about 18 pounds.  Yes 18.  Heck, the number of pants I can fit these days are few.  While on one hand I’m kind of happy about the butt I never had starting to grow, I can’t deal with the extra stomach.  The love handles aren’t sexy to me.  Now my boyfriend says I’m still sexy to him, and even sexier now that there is a little more cushion for the pushin.  Ironically, I don’t feel confident like I use to during sex. I wear a shirt and the lights stay off.  I know I should go on an Herbal Life slim down or something, but what do I do in the meantime.  It took 8 months to put on the weight, so I know it will take some time to lose it.  Appreciate the help.

Gettin Thick

Dear Gettin Thick,

Thanks for writing to me.  Sounds like you are experiencing some good old fashion relationship weight.  I’ve told folks time and time again, relationship weight is a very real thing, and most people fall victim to it at some point.  Yours truly is included in that grand number. And like you, I took a look in the mirror one day and said things have got to change.  I entered “Operation Bounce Back.”

Now you’re right about the fact losing weight takes some time.  If you are anything like me, you do everything from eating healthy to working out, and the extra pounds seem like they don’t come off fast enough.  But just stay the course.  You can’t build a house in one day, so we shouldn’t think you can build a body like Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson in a week.  (Excluding plastic surgery of course.)

Let me also take the time to point out that I’m a fan of your boyfriend.  I know you’re feeling insecure, but be happy that he likes the “extra cushion for the pushin.” Until you shed the weight, enjoy the fact you have a bigger butt, and didn’t have to get shots or do squats to get it.

Oh, and please lose the shirt when having relations.  I’m almost certain your boo wants his partner as naked as he is when those moments of passion come.  Which means you need to own your sexy and be confident.  Yes you are a little heavier than you would like to be right now, but you obviously still turn on your man, so own who you are.  As I’ve stated before, confidence is sexy. (Confidence is Sexy)  And heck, Queen Bey owns her sexy whether she is in concert form, or reverts back to her DC days. LOL!

Suggestions going forward.

  1. Again, stop it with the shirt. And stop shying away from the light like a vampire.

  1. While I’ve seen success stories with Herbal Life, that may not be the best plan for you. Just weigh your options when it comes to a fitness plan.

As always nothing but love,
